CLEVELAND (AP) -- A backyard sculpture turns out to be a lot more valuable than a birdbath. The 4-foot tall sculpture of a woman carrying a water container on her head has sold at auction for $118,000. The Cleveland homeowner almost let an antique dealer take it for just three-grand. The sculpture was in the yard when the man bought the home 40 years ago. Research shows the piece was by a famed Egyptian sculptor (Mahmoud Mokhtar) whose works fill an entire Cairo museum. Officials of the Cleveland Auction Company say the seller and buyer don't want to be named. |
