There's some encouraging news to report about the economy: unemployment is down to five percent. That's a start...but how long before gas costs less than the car and a dozen eggs don't cost more than a chicken? Today in Saint Louis President Bush remarked that the economy is "not as robust" as we would like. Most Saint Louisans and Americans would certainly agree. In almost every economic strata, the question being asked is "how are... A 14 year-old boy is fighting for his life; his little sister's is over at the sweet age of five. Earlier this week Greg Womack and Cheramara Motley were riding a bicycle at Sarah and Kennerly when they were hit by an S-U-V. The impact sent them airborne and into the path of a bi-state bus. The news brought tears to the eyes of those who have never even met the children. Today an email went out, asking for "prayers and supp... The boys of summer are back in town, and once again downtown Saint Louis is seeing more red than the federal government! Who are YOU? Seriously. This is not cursory chit-chat I'm inviting you to join. Not one of those "how-are-you-today" questions we toss the way of a colleague as we rush to the vending machine for an afternoon energy boost. Or the "what's-new-with-you" we utter to a friend while driving home from work with the cell phone stuck like gum between our ear and our shoulder. Really...who are YOU? Each of us will have to answer that question bef... It's only Monday, and what a week! Hi, there...remember me? Please say you do...even if you are asking, "Where have you been?" Working on my 2008 goals. There's already been one vacation, close to three books read, and ask me how to get around the new I-64 project. No baking, yet...and my spanish is still muy mal. But 11 months remain. That said, January is only days from being a mere memory. Santa Claus has yet to make his jolly way down the chimney, and I have already closed the book on 2007. Oh, of course, I will still enjoy trimming the tree Christmas Eve with my parents, my brother and his family, plus a few special friends. Christmas Brunch at my Kansas City friends' home, Lisa and Herb Hardwick, is as much a part of the holiday for me as gingerbread and eggnog.
