September 2008 ArchivesThe changes keep coming out at Rams Park. As expected Jim Haslett's first move as head coach was to put Marc Bulger back in at starting quarterback. There is no question in my mind that this was the right thing to do. If the Rams are going to win some ball games this season they are going to have to sink or swim with Bulger. That being said I would not just hand over the keys and say this team is yours for ever and ever. It was... Word came down early this morning that Scott Linehan has been fired from the St. Louis Rams. As I have stated in many previous posts this is exactly what has needed to be done. But this is only the beginning. ...The writing was on every wall of the Edward Jones Dome tonight as the Rams lost again. It appears that Scott Linehan coached his final game in St. Louis. The powers that be were in meetings as soon as the game was over so clearly it is being talked about at the highest levels. I don't see how the Rams can't fire Linehan tomorrow. But please as a Rams fan don't hang all of this at Linehan's door. The fact is when a coach gets fire... Change is in the air here in St. Louis. The Rams have decided that Trent Green gives the Rams their best chance to win this week. This is probably the last act of a desperate man but you can't blame Scott Linehan for giving it a shot. Marc Bulger was not good last week. The problem is that the Rams have so many more issues than quarterback play. If they aren't able to stop anyone defensively it doesn't matter what the offense does. ... Have you seen the line-ups that Tony La Russa has put on the field the past few days? What's he thinking now? First of all, with the Arizona Diamondbacks still in the pennant race, don't the Cardinals owe it to the D-backs competition (the L.A. Dodgers) to play these games hard? Wouldn't the Cardinals expect the same if the situation was reversed? And why hasTony been playing Adam Kennedy in rightfield this past week? If you're not going to pu... It may seem too simplistic to give one answer to why the Rams are as bad as they are this season. They can't defend. They can't create offense. Their play calling on both sides of the ball is questionable at best. The head coach does not inspire confidence and all signs are pointing to an early dismissal. But the biggest reason the Rams are the worst team in the NFL this season is because of their inability to draft during Scott Line... When was the last time you saw an 0-2 football team be a 10 point favorite over anybody? Well the Seattle Seahawks have somehow managed to have that happen to them. That just tells you how bad the Rams have been this season. The Seahawks season is on the brink and we know that the only thing on the brink at this point for the Rams is Scott Linehan's job. You have to think that the Seahawks will not let this one get away and until the Ra... In an earlier blog for this space, I wrote that I thought the Rams had a chance to surprise some people this year. I wrote that they just might be able to make a run at the NFC West title. Can I change my mind about that? Holy Smokes, how can any team be this bad? Coming off a 3-and-13 season nobody really expected them to be legitimate Super Bowl contender, but this is far worse than anyone could have predicted. When your two best players are... It is time to put an end to the Scott Linehan regime. I am not a fire the coach everytime a team loses kind of guy but we are at the end of the Linehan era here in St. Louis. This team followed up a pathetic performance in Philly with a gutless laydown against the Giants this afternoon. Where do you even begin with this team? Where has the defense gone? I knew that the Rams secondary was a little shaky at the beginning of the se... So what did we learn from Week One in the NFL? We learned that the Rams are bad. Really bad. We learned the Dallas Cowboys are good. Really good. The other thing we learned was that the NFL will still be unpredictable. Who had the Panthers winning in San Diego? Who had Tom Brady's season being done 8 minutes into the season? This season will provide another roller coaster year in which once you think you have it figured out it w... Jim Edmonds said during an interview today on my radio show, that he feels like he's been stabbed in the back by the Cardinals organization. Edmonds says he gave the Cardinals the best years of his career, not to mention several million dollars to their Cardinals Care charity, only to be bad mouthed by Tony La Russa upon his return to Busch Stadium as a Cub. La Russa was angry at Edmonds after reading a quote in a Chicago paper where Edmonds s... Word out of Rams Park today is that the Rams have signed former first round draft pick Eddie Kennison to a contract. If this isn't a desperation move I don't know what is. Why in the world would the Rams need to sign a 35 year old wide receiver off the scrap heap? It wasn't like Kennison was a productive receiver in 2007 or even in 2006. It's not like he just missed out on making someone else's roster. He wasn't even in anyone's camp... I know the city of St. Louis has not had the best two year stretch. The town has had one of it's civic treasures sold. Crime is up. Unemployment is up. House prices are down and, something not nearly as serious, the local professional sports teams have not been good. This town is suffering from an identity crisis right now. One of the issues that has been called into question in the local sports scene has been the Rams rela... Few, if any, of the local or national "experts" are predicting the Rams to be a playoff contender this season. It's hard to ignore their 3 and 13 record of a year ago, and the fact that many of the Rams key players (Marc Bulger, Torry Holt, Orlando Pace, Leonard Little) are beginning to show signs of age. But the Rams aren't a hopeless case. During the offense, they added some solid young players in key positions. The two rookie wide outs, Ke... So it is finally that time. America's true pasttime finally begins. Tomorrow night we finally kick off the NFL season for real. Most every team has reason for optimism. Even Scott Linehan and the Rams. They may not have visions of the Lombardi Trophy coming down Market, but they can at least think they are a playoff caliber team for a few more weeks. I have no idea who will be winning the Super Bowl this year but I have channeled th... I wonder, could Gustav and any other hurricanes heading for New Orleans now or in the future possibly lead to the Rams being able to stay in St. Louis for the long term? ... |
