Lake DeWitt

7:29 PM Mon, Jun 30, 2008 |
Tim Klusarits

Two years and three months from the day Busch Stadium III opened the Cardinals have finally decided to do something with the eyesore that is the hole where Busch Stadium II sat. After being pressured by City Hall they have finally decided to clean up their construction site a little bit including picking up trash and pumping the water out of what has not so affectionately been dubbed Lake DeWitt.

The club said today that have finally...

Surviving The Road Trip and Looking Ahead

9:39 PM Sun, Jun 29, 2008 |
Tim Klusarits

The Cardinals wrapped up a successful road trip on Sunday finishing with a 5-4 record. It is very frustrating, that with the exception of Friday night's game in Kansas City, this could have and should have been an 8-1 road trip. If the bullpen just would have not blown those two games in Detroit the Cardinals would be a half game out of first place heading into Monday night's game against the Mets. That is frustrating but with how this se...

I Miss the NBA Draft.....

9:12 PM Thu, Jun 26, 2008 |
Tim Klusarits

I am watching the NBA Draft tonight in the office and am bored to tears. I used to really enjoy the draft and in many ways it was just as interesting as the NFL Draft. There were three main reasons it was better than the NFL Draft in the old days. First it moved much quicker then the NFL Draft, second I think a lot of people had investment in the college players who were being drafted and really knew the players in and out. Third there ...

Euro 2008 and exciting soccer....No really.

3:30 PM Wed, Jun 25, 2008 |
Tim Klusarits

I know soccer in this country will never be in the top 5 of sports as far as interest level. I understand that. I am not a soccer snob who can't possibly understand why people don't like the sport. I understand why people don't like it. That being said the Euro 2008 Tournament, and today's game between Germany and Turkey, is as exciting as it gets in sports.

For a little background Germany as always is one of the top teams in th...

Rick Ankiel's Hitting Decline

7:45 PM Tue, Jun 24, 2008 |
Tim Klusarits

I did a little research tonight on Rick Ankiel. My eyes are telling me that Rick Ankiel is having some issues right now and is not nearly as good of a hitter as advertised. The numbers back me up as I watch Ankiel strike out with the bases loaded tonight against Kenny Rogers in the 5th inning.

Here are some of the disturbing trends.....

In the month of June Ankiel is hitting .196 with 4 Home Runs and 7 RBI's.

Against ...

Done With Mulder

7:52 PM Mon, Jun 23, 2008 |
Tim Klusarits

I actually laughed when I saw the e-mail at my computer when I came back from the 6 pm newscast from the Cardinals PR Department. It said Mark Mulder was scratched from tonight's start in Nashville due to back stiffness. I didn't laugh because I wish any malice towards Mark Mulder. He seems like a pretty stand up guy. It is certainly not because I don't want the Cardinals to do well. What made me laugh was that the Cardinals really b...

Which Team Is It?

10:18 PM Sun, Jun 22, 2008 |
Tim Klusarits

Just when you think you have figured out the 2008 Cardinals something happens that makes you feel different. When I left the office on Thursday night I felt the Cardinals were on the verge of having everything fall apart. A trip to Boston where no road team has any success this season was not what they needed. Then somehow someway Lohse, Boggs and Piniero pitch wonderfully, they win the series, and come within a whisker of sweeping the R...

A Disturbing Series

8:04 PM Thu, Jun 19, 2008 |
Tim Klusarits

Where to begin with the Cardinals. Are you more disturbed that the Cardinals just got swept by the Royals at home? Or is it possibly that they only scored 4 runs in the entire series? Maybe it was that the bullpen made fatal errors in all three games. It could have been that the Cardinals had exactly one walk in the entire series. So many problems and I have no idea where to begin.

Clearly this team is not the same without Alb...

No Tiger Again in St. Louis

2:59 PM Wed, Jun 18, 2008 |
Tim Klusarits

When I heard that Tiger Woods was going to undergo season ending surgery today my first thought was there goes another chance to ever see Tiger Woods in St. Louis. With today's news that Tiger is done it means that we will not be seeing him at the BMW Championship at Bellerive CC in early September. This is now the second time that St. Louisians have been deprived the opportunity to see the Tiger circus in town.

The last time Tiger...

Cautious Optimism

8:21 PM Tue, Jun 17, 2008 |
Tim Klusarits

A lot of good news over at the ballpark tonight. First off Yadier Molina was back at Busch and was in uniform for tonight's game against the Royals. Molina believes that he could play as soon as tomorrow night. The Cardinals remain cautious but believe he will certainly be back by the weekend. They have made the decision to just go with Jason LaRue for the next couple of days and there is no need to call anyone up. That is tremendous ...

Why Tiger is the Greatest

4:32 PM Mon, Jun 16, 2008 |
Tim Klusarits

Watching the U.S. Open today was to me the clearest reason why Tiger Woods is the greatest golfer that has ever played the game. I know that Tiger still has a few majors to win before he passes Jack Nicklaus but today was the most glaring example of why it isn't even close when comparing the two.

Each week the competition and the fields are deeper and stronger than anything Nicklaus or any other golfer previous to Woods has ever had ...

SIUE Moving To Division One

7:42 PM Tue, Jun 10, 2008 |
Tim Klusarits

This kind of went under the radar today on the St. Louis sports landscape but SIU-Edwardsville made it official that they will be joining the Ohio Valley Conference at the end of the month and becoming a full member starting in the 2011-2012 season. To those who are alumni and friends of SIUE it is a big day. But for the St. Louis sports fan this is also a big deal although many don't realize it yet.

Not to take away from some of th...

Cardinals Injury Update and Griffey 600 HR

7:35 PM Mon, Jun 09, 2008 |
Tim Klusarits

Good and bad news from the Cardinals tonight. First the good. Todd Wellemeyer and Joel Piniero will both be rejoining the rotation this week. As well Rick Ankiel has been cleared to play for the Cardinals and will rejoin the team in Cincinnati. Now the bad and this one could be real bad. Adam Wainwright has been put on the 15 day DL with the injured finger. He will rest it and then have it re-evaluated later in the week and they wil...

Big Brown, Jim McKay and the Olympics

11:20 PM Sun, Jun 08, 2008 |
Tim Klusarits

I was geeked up for this weekend's Belmont Stakes looking forward to the opportunity to actually see a horse win the Triple Crown. Yet again I will have to wait to see something that hasn't been accomplished since 1978. I think Big Brown's trainer made the right decision to race this weekend. The horse for whatever reason just didn't have it.

They claim that there is no injury and I will abide by their word. Their explanatio...

The Major League Baseball Draft

7:29 PM Thu, Jun 05, 2008 |
Tim Klusarits

Of the four major sports I believe that by far the Major League Baseball draft is not only the most uninteresting but is also the biggest crapshoot in all the major sports. The reason it is the most uninteresting to me is that for the most part no one knows who any of these players are.

You might catch a college baseball game here and there but even the most diehard fans couldn't really tell you who is who in the baseball draft. ...

Another Year Without A Cup

9:35 PM Wed, Jun 04, 2008 |
Tim Klusarits

The final seconds are ticking down in Game 6 of the Stanley Cup Finals and we go another year without the Blues winning the Stanley Cup. All the years of heartache in the playoffs are bad enough but tonight another significant former Blues player will be hoisting the Stanley Cup.

Former Blues captain Dallas Drake will be lifting the cup for the first time in his career. Dallas was captain of some of the worst teams in the franch...

Best Game Ever Played?

6:18 PM Wed, Jun 04, 2008 |
Tim Klusarits

Last night's triple overtime game between the Pittsburgh Penguins and the Detroit Red Wings may have been one of the greatest single games in any sport I have ever witnessed. Forget for a moment that it was the Stanley Cup Finals, or that the Penguins entire season was on the line, or that the game had moved into early Tuesday morning on the East Coast.

The fact that there was a player (Ryan Malone, Penguins Forward) tha...

Bargain Basement Pitching

9:00 PM Mon, Jun 02, 2008 |
Tim Klusarits

Todd Wellemeyer won the National League Pitcher of the Month award this afternoon. All he managed to accomplish in May was a 4-0 record with a 2.19 ERA. If those numbers don't impress you then maybe this number will. The Cardinals are paying Wellemeyer "only" 1 Million dollars for this season. That is an incredible bargain in the current baseball climate. Here are what the current Cardinals starting pitching staff is currently costi...

MMA, Elite XC, CBS and Kimbo Slice

3:25 PM Sun, Jun 01, 2008 |
Tim Klusarits

I am a sucker for bad TV apparantly. I admit I get sucked into a Jerry Springer episode every once in awhile. I admit I was sucked into the first game of the XFL and I got sucked into the MMA "event" that was shown on CBS last night. From the numbers in St. Louis apparantly a good number of other people were too.

I understand the popularity of the sport. Admittedly I am a novice fan but I know who some of the big names are and ...
