Jim Edmonds The Cub

7:21 PM Wed, May 14, 2008 |

By Thursday morning Jim Edmonds will be a Chicago Cubs outfielder. I don't know how much he has left in the tank but it seems to me the risk is worth it. They have a young outfielder in Felix Pie who is not producing and overmatched. If the Cubs can platoon Edmonds with Reed Johnson in an effective manner it seems like it could possibly work.

What I am surprised about is not the move but the reaction of some Cardinal fans who are using words like traitor. I must have missed something but this is pro sports and players do change teams. Jim Edmonds is the best center fielder in Cardinals history. That won't be forgotten but time moves on and in Edmonds case it was time to go after the 2007 season. There is nothing wrong with finding employment and wanting to continue your career elsewhere.

I didn't want to see Edmonds career end in such an ugly manner in San Diego. I hope he has a respectable showing at least in Chicago to finish up a terrific career.

I'm a die hard Cardinal fan, and I hate the cubs. That being said I wish Jim Edmonds the best. I will cheer the man on as long as he isn't beating my Cardinals. I will continue to proudly wear my Cardinals Jim Edmonds Jersey. Other players have went from the Cardinals to the cubs, and the fans have supported them. We need to support Edmonds at this time because he was a great Cardinal player for a very long time.

I agree. I will be there to give Edmonds a standing ovation when he returns. I want Edmonds to play well in Chicago as long he doesn't hurt the Cardinals. And as for him being a traitor, we traded him, so it's not like he turned his back on us. There wasn't much of a market for him so he went where he was wanted. He has called St. Louis the best 8 years of his life and he will forever be a Cardinal!
