This afternoon's Rams game against the Bucs brought back memories of Tony Banks, Rich Brooks and the bad days of Rams football. It was ugly in every portion of the game. To me it was the worst game of Marc Bulger's career. He made several critical mistakes including horribly underthrowing Drew Bennett in the endzone which turned into an interception. The Rams play calling was atrocious. The gameplan was good for trying to protect Bulger a little more but if I see one more hitch pass I am going to scream. The play is going nowhere and they continued to call it. Also if the Rams are going to spend draft picks and free agent money on Tight Ends and a big wide reciever why are they not attacking the middle of the field? This also extends to the red zone. You have all of these weapons and the big running back in Steven Jackson and the Rams still can't score touchdowns. Just as an added kick in the pants the special teams went into the tank today too. The defense played well till late in the game. It was clear to me that the Rams defense saw the same thing I saw. There was no way the offense was going to score more than 17 points to win so it deflated them. Not that it is an excuse but it is understandable. Right now for the first time since the Rams have moved to St. Louis the defense is clearly in front of the offense. That is shocking to me. So where do the Rams go from here? 1998 was the last time a team started 0-3 and made the playoffs. Only 5 times in NFL history has a team started 0-3 and made the playoffs. On top of that 3 of the next 4 games are on the road for the Rams. What it all adds up to is most likely no playoffs and a long fall in St. Louis. Tim Klutsarits |
