Isringhausen's problems

Doug Vaughn

How long will the Cardinals go with Jason Isringhausen as the closer? That's a question Tony La Russa has to be asking himself. It appears the Cards will be a legitimate contending team this year, but they can't afford to keep giving away games in the late innings. Izzy has 4 blown saves and a loss now. If he were pitching as well as he did last year the Cardinals would be 5 or 6 games ahead of the pack in the Central Division by now.

Rick Ankiel's Arm

Rick Ankiel's throws from centerfield to nail two Colorado Rockies baserunners begs the question as to whether Ankiel has the strongest arm in the history of Cardinal baseball. My memory goes back to the early 60's, so if I slight any players who wore the Birds on bat before that time I apologize.

Clearly Ankiel's outfield arm is the strongest we've seen in recent years. His two throws in Colorado even left his teammates wide-eyed in ...

Tragedy In Kentucky

I was watching the Kentucky Derby live, as I try to do every year, and was watching the celebration of Big Brown when the cameras panned off to a horse lying on the ground and I said to my wife that is probably the end of one horse. I have witnessed enough horse racing to know that whichever horse that was, it was most likely the end of that horse's life.

As it turned out it was the runner-up Eight Belles who unfortunately broke bo...

Misremembering

Another day and another allegation involving Roger Clemens and the "other woman." As it turns it out, surprise surprise, there are numerous "other women" out there in Clemens life. We have stayed away from this ongoing story on the TV side of things but all of this just makes you shake your head.

It is not the fact that Clemens was using performance enhancing drugs. Most everyone in the inner circles of sports have suspected super...

Going Bowling

I know it is April 30th but two stories crossed the wire today that got me fired up about college football. These two stories are everything that is wrong with the sport. The first story had to do with the BCS which has decided that not only will the system not make a 4 team playoff but it will remain exactly the same through 2014. Why don't the powers that be understand that a playoff is what the sport needs. They will make a TON of m...

The Day After....

I always laugh that the instant the NFL draft ends there are already grades out on how teams fared. Even the Mel Kiper's of the world can't honestly assess what just happened in that quick of a timeframe. The reality is you really don't begin to know what you got till they put on the pads in the summer. Beyond that to really grade a draft you need a good 3 years to be fair and honest. That being said I was still curious to see what was ...

Reason To Pause on Dorsey

All signs are currently pointing towards the Rams taking Glenn Dorsey with the second pick overall. Outside of the obvious injury questions let me add another problem with taking a defensive tackle in the top 5.

Over the past 20 years of the NFL Draft there have been 7 defensive tackles that have been selected in the top 5 picks. Only one, Cortez Kennedy SEA-1990, had what you would consider a pro-bowl year in and year out career. ...
