Okay, I'm Not Saying My House is Haunted, But Then Again...

7:58 PM Sat, Oct 31, 2009 |

I don't know if there are spirits that interact with the human world or not. I guess it's one of those things in life that either you believe or you don't. I'll let others debate that point. But I can tell you that I've had a few--I guess you would say "creepy"--things that have happened to me in my house.

A few years ago I bought an old building in the city of St. Louis. It was built during the 1890's. It had been a saloon at one...

At Least Four Carjackings in St. Louis Area in a Week

9:49 PM Fri, Oct 30, 2009 |

We're standing in Hazelwood tonight outside St. Louis Mills Mall. This is the scene of one of the latest carjackings in the St. Louis area. We've had four in a week. One was deadly. A Velda City man was shot and killed by suspects (who are still on the loose) even though he cooperated with their demands.

It's a scary thought. You're in your car or walking to it and someone armed with a gun or knife carjacks you. One of the ...

Police Boost Patrols Following Flasher Reports

8:15 PM Fri, Oct 30, 2009 |

Police in Webster Groves and Brentwood say there have been five cases of a man exposing himself to young girls over the last month. The victims range in age from 8 to 14 years old. The man, a blonde in his late 20s or early 30s, drives up in a black car with silver or white stripes and asks for directions. The girls reported that in each case, the man was naked in his car from the waist down.

Webster Groves Police said most of the c...

Chasing the rain

6:05 PM Fri, Oct 30, 2009 |

I guess it's good the most compelling story I found today was a couple trying to dry out their basement. Don't get me wrong, a basement covered in backed up sewer water is a horrible thing.

I'm just glad we weren't covering rescues from flood waters or worse... people who chanced it and didn't make it.

I spent parts of the day in Maryland Heights, Creve Coeur and Chesterfield. I saw some closed roads in Maryland Heights, no...

River Rescue

9:55 PM Thu, Oct 29, 2009 |

All the rain we've had has turned our rivers into dangerous places. And two 12 year old boys found that out on Thursday. Bradley Edwards was fishing with his friend when he slipped and fell in. His friend, Michael Melchoir tried to pull him out, but when he couldn't he did the next best thing. He stayed calm and got help and led rescuers to the spot. Bradely managed to hold on to a large rock in the river and waited for firefighter...

Kids Going to School On-Line Lose Funding

9:07 PM Thu, Oct 29, 2009 |

Wednesday, Governor Jay Nixon announced $634 million in cuts to the budget. About $2.3 million will be carved out of the Missouri Virtual Instruction Program. That's half the money in MoVIP's budget, which means the cyber school will get nothing from the state next semester.

State-wide, 1600 students are enrolled in the K-12 MoVIP program. Most don't pay tuition because it is state-funded. There ...

No Flu Shot For You

7:50 PM Thu, Oct 29, 2009 |

If you're still waiting for your school district for H1N1 flu shots you are not alone.
St Louis County and the state of Missouri are also waiting. The delays in manufacturing the vaccine is being felt here at home. St Louis County's Health Dept, says they've only received about 43,000 doses so far, well short of the 136,000 they project they will need. At this point they've been able to only get vaccines to 11 of the 23 sc...

What to make of the guy accused of shooting his dog dead

7:42 PM Thu, Oct 29, 2009 |

I'm a big "benefit of the doubt" guy. When people do things I try (as hard as it is sometimes) to put myself in their shoes.

So I started thinking about this 54-year old man charged with animal cruelty for taking his sick dog out back and shooting it like Ol' Yeller.

Relatively new to this area, I'd never heard of Moro, Illinois. I thought, maybe it's so rural and so far from a regular town perhaps there's not a veterinarian ...

Student Brings Loaded Gun to Class

5:11 PM Thu, Oct 29, 2009 |

For the second time this month a high school student brings a hand gun to school. Today's incident happened at Riverview Gardens High School after a parent tipped school officials off.

Earlier this month a student in the Hazelwood School District brought a gun to school.

The parent called leaders this morning at 7:30, moments after school started. Automatically the high school was placed on lockdown as security personnel se...

The Home of the Brave

9:07 PM Wed, Oct 28, 2009 |

Seven brave heroes were honored tonight in Alton. They are the construction workers who raced to save a 24 year old man from a burning car along River Heritage Parkway last month.
They also got to meet for the first time the man they saved, Michael McKenna.
It was quite a scene as McKenna watched these men get their honors. McKenna is recovering from a fractured hip, the only injury he suffered from being in the...

Teens "Trick or Treating" Early Maybe Tied to Crimes

8:49 PM Wed, Oct 28, 2009 |

Police in Lebanon, Illinois are investigating several reports of suspicious people and home break-ins within the same area. Residents who live in the 400 block of Hillcrest tell News 4 they believe the incidents could be related. A police spokesperson said investigators aren't willing to link the two yet, but they could be related. In one instance, two teens rang the door bell of a home in the 400 block of Hillcrest last week around ...

Peer of teen murder suspect shares some insight

6:12 PM Wed, Oct 28, 2009 |

I covered the funeral procession today in Jefferson City for nine-year old Elizabeth Olten of St. Martins who was murdered last week. The family didn't invite media inside the church so we stayed out of the way.

Along the roadside between the church and the cemetery, a couple hundred people gathered with pink balloons so the family would see all the support they have in the community.

One of the balloon-holders is a senior at ...

Hanley Eager Intersection Reopens Tomorrow

5:34 PM Wed, Oct 28, 2009 |

Finally, the bottleneck at Hanley and Eager is opening! Sometime tomorrow (before evening rush) it will be ready. That just makes me more anxious for the whole highway to open up. Dan Galvin of Gateway Constructors says the deadline may be sooner than the scheduled December 31st, but they won't have an actual date until another week or two.
This rainy October isn't helping!

H1N1 Vaccine delayed

3:39 PM Wed, Oct 28, 2009 |

Many school districts in the St. Louis area were suppose to get their H1N1 vaccines this week. However, a nationwide shortage on the vaccine has delayed the drug from getting to many of the local schools this week. The Centers for Disease Control says the H1N1 vaccine should become widely available any where from early to mid November. The question is do you plan on getting the H1N1 vaccine when it becomes available?

AB's Frat Party

10:27 PM Tue, Oct 27, 2009 |

The lawsuit by former AB executive Francine Katz against her fromer employer is more than enough to raise eyebrows.
Katz, who spent 20 years at AB and ascended to Vice President of Communications and Consumer Affairs also sat on the elite Strategy Committee and easily commanded six figure salaries and bonuses.
But she claims in her suit that her male counter-parts easily made twice as much and AB's top ex...

Quinn Campaign Seems Upset With News 4

9:36 PM Tue, Oct 27, 2009 |

Last Thursday we aired a story about Governor Pat Quinn's big announcement - he's running for governor. Quinn took office after Governor Blagojevich was impeached. Quinn inherited a multi billion dollar budget deficit. In light of the budget crisis we asked Governor Quinn how much tax money was being used during his campaign kickoff tour across the state. The question was prompted after we noticed the state airplane sitting on the runway at th...

Changes to Lambert's East Terminal

8:52 PM Tue, Oct 27, 2009 |

Today Lambert's Airport Director informed me that there will soon be some changes in the East Terminal. Before Southwest Airlines adds 9 new flights later this year, the airport will expand the security screening area to six lanes. Currently there are 4 screening lanes. Director Richard Hrabko says by adding the 2 lanes 400 more people per hour will be able to get through security.

Do you fly Southwest, do you think this will help...

A New Low: Thieves Target Christmas Display

7:58 PM Tue, Oct 27, 2009 |

Yes, it's not even Halloween yet... but a group of retirees in the Alton area are already busy setting up some 3 million lights for the Christmas Wonderland display.

The "Grandpa Gang" is made up of about 20 volunteers that work for 11 weeks to put on the Christmas light display which raises money for charity.

Last year, the group raised $25,000 for about 44 area char...

Facebook Link Not What It Seems

5:26 PM Tue, Oct 27, 2009 |

I thought I was going to a link on Facebook sent by a friend this morning, it looked legit, but turns out it was to an adult swinger site where you can sign up to meet people (and upload porn). Needless to say, it wasn't from my friend and she had no idea her address book had been compromised. Just goes to show you, you can't be too careful. So now I'm off to improve my anti-virus software... and make sure I know exactly what I'm "clicking"...

Kids Tamiflu on backorder for weeks

3:54 PM Tue, Oct 27, 2009 |

The number one treatment of the flu in kids is nowhere to be found thanks to the intense spread of H1N1 across the country.

This has been the case for about a month...

But no kid with H1N1 or the regular flu should be going without a pediatric, liquid dose of Tamiflu. MOST pharmacies can compound the kids dose from the adult pills.

Brett Williams of >> Continue reading: Kids Tamiflu on backorder for weeks

Not Welcome in Chicago

11:07 PM Mon, Oct 26, 2009 |

The story of the 6 Washington University students is starting to spread around the country.
The 6 say they were denied entry into the Chicago nightclub called, Mother's Original Bar on October 17 because they were black. the students were there for the senior class fall trip. Bolstering their case is the sequence where after being told their pants were too "baggy" they exchanged their pants with white students, who di...

Big Mac To Return to StL

9:38 PM Mon, Oct 26, 2009 |

When was the last time that the hiriing of the hitting coach upstaged the team's manager announcing he was coming back for another season?

The Cardinals confirmed today that Mark McGwire was coming back to St. Louis to serve as the team's hitting coach. The phone lines at the local talk radio and sports talk radio shows were lighting up. The arguments for McGwire's return---both pro and con---were passionate. That's Cardinal...

You Can Help, Mailman Robbed

8:38 PM Mon, Oct 26, 2009 |

There is a large reward on the table tonight for anyone who can help investigators find the person that held up a St. Louis mail carrier over the weekend in North St. Louis. It happened on Saturday in the 4900 block of Theodore in St. Louis. Police don't have a great description of the suspect, but we are told he fled on foot and wore a blue banana across his face. The suspect stole some personal items from the victim, but no mail. ...

Avoid Trouble When Looking for Work

8:10 PM Mon, Oct 26, 2009 |

Many of you are looking for new jobs and are posting resumes on-line. We heard from a woman we profiled in our "Ready to Work" series who recently got a call from a person offering her a chance to join an organization for $29 to sell various products (everything from dog food to hand creams). She worried it may be a scam.

While there are multi-level marking businesses that are perfectly legitimate, the line between a good opportunity...

Red Light Cameras Bring in Greenbacks

5:36 PM Mon, Oct 26, 2009 |

Motorist may not like them, but the red light cameras in the city are bringing in millions - ten million since the program's inception here. The Director of Operations who oversees the
program says the goal was never money, but public safety. He says the cameras have resulted in up to an 85% decrease in citations at the intersections where they were installed. (They were put in at the city's most dangerous 25 intersections.)
A...

Credit Card Shock

4:45 PM Mon, Oct 26, 2009 |

Chances are, you already have received one of these letters from a credit card about new rules. If you haven't yet tossed it away, take a few moments to read it carefully.
The new rules do have good news for many consumers, but there is also some surprising changes for many who you wouldn't expect to be penalized.
Good customers seem to be falling victim here, with higher minimum payments, annual fees, and lower l...

Maryland Heights Man Struggles with Gunman

8:42 PM Sun, Oct 25, 2009 |

A 21-year-old Maryland Heights man had a life-and-death struggle with a gunman. The victim in the case was arriving home after a night out with his girlfriend. He pulled his truck into the driveway, got out and walked his girlfriend to her car across the street. Two armed men approached the couple and ordered them back into the truck.

The suspects told them to drive to an ATM. The victim said he had only 83 cents in his accou...

Bike Thief Rips off Disabled Man

9:41 PM Fri, Oct 23, 2009 |

I'm sitting in the live-truck on the University City loop as I type this up. We just got done interviewing a man named Larry Bowen about his stolen bike. Actually, I guess it would officially be a "trike" since it's a three-wheeler. Bowen is disabled. He had brain cancer which led to a stroke. It left him in a wheelchair. He says in the chair he feels trapped but he feels free when he rides his bike.

But a thieft stole hi...

Another Senseless Killing

5:28 PM Fri, Oct 23, 2009 |

Tonight the loved ones of a 65 year old man are grieving. He was shot to death last night in front of his home and in front of his wife. A robbery/carjacking police believe. Relatives say he asked them not to kill him - that he would give them anything. But they killed him anyway. The suspects are young - late teens early 20s. It used to be unusual for young people to kill. Not anymore. It is frightening.

Devastating ending to search in St. Martins, Missouri

4:49 PM Fri, Oct 23, 2009 |

Less than 48 hours after nine-year old Elizabeth Olten went missing the Cole County Sheriff confirms she was murdered.

Sheriff Greg White told us shortly before noon Friday he got a hand-written note (from where or whom he wouldn't say) that led them to a "person of interest."

They got to the person of interest, a juvenile (wouldn't say age or gender) who's older than Elizabeth and that child led authorities to her body in a de...

Drugs South of the Border

9:11 PM Thu, Oct 22, 2009 |

Two stories today about illegal drugs in St Louis with roots in Mexico.
The first involved the alleged smuggling of testosterone through Lambert Airport. The individual there was caught back in May but now charges have been filed. The DEA here in St Louis tells me steroids from Mexico are an emerging problem both at the airport and over the internet and as many as 45 percent of high school seniors say they've tried steroid...

H1N1 Vaccine in Short Supply

8:58 PM Thu, Oct 22, 2009 |

Supplies of the H1N1 vaccine are low. The government expected large quantities of the vaccine would be available by mid-October, but so far only a fraction have rolled off the production line.

Part of the problem is manufacturers have had less time to make the H1N1 vaccine than they would typically have to produce the seasonal flu vaccine.

For now, as vaccines become available, most are being distributed to what the CDC has id...

Are DUI Offenders Getting Off Easy?

5:22 PM Wed, Oct 21, 2009 |

In light of recent reports of dui offenders with multiple offenses not being punished, I talked to a defense attorney and a former prosecutor about the "system".
I asked how could it happen? Basically, they said the system works. That it isn't 100% effective because nothing that involves human is... but that dui is a crime that's taken seriously and comes with serious penalties. But they also said the system is not set up to try every...

Driving backwards and going the wrong way on MLK Bridge

3:50 PM Wed, Oct 21, 2009 |

Yes, that's exactly what I did this afternoon... for a good several hundred yards I might add. I didn't even get pulled over.

Hours before the reopening of the MLK Bridge after $1.4-million in safety improvements, we were allowed to drive on it to get video as crews were wrapping things up.

I drove as my videographer colleague hung his camera out the window to take the pictures. Once we got about halfway, there were work tru...

Volatile meeting over street barriers

9:26 PM Tue, Oct 20, 2009 |

About 35 people from the LaSalle Park neighborhood in South St. Louis gathered to discuss an issue catapulted to the forefront after a home invasion-robbery-murder two weeks ago.

The mother and brother of nurse Gina Stallis, who was shot and killed, couldn't have been more clear. They want the cement traffic barriers in front of their home removed. They say while they don't believe EMS crews could have saved Gina, they are convinced ...

Coyotes Among Us

8:56 PM Tue, Oct 20, 2009 |

Coyotes are living in every state on the US mainland, yet seeing one roam around near Clayton and Hanley Roads seems odd. But that is the case, and residents there say they see it from time to time.
Missouri's Department of Conservation says urban coyotes are somewhat common, and they've spotted on recently in Forest Park.
And just tonight I got a call from a viewer who says he saw on in his driveway thi...

7:58 PM Tue, Oct 20, 2009 |

Today the Missouri Development Finance Board tentatively voted in favor of loaning the City of St. Louis 5 million dollars to make improvements to the One City Centre building downtown. The building sits on top of the well know vacant St. Louis Centre Mall. One City Centre is a 25 story office building that is currently only 15 percent full. City leaders hope the loan from the state will help the owner of the building make needed improvemen...

Police: Suspect in Sumner Shooting in Custody

5:27 PM Tue, Oct 20, 2009 |

A day after a 17 year old Sumner High School student was shot in the street in front of the school, police have taken a suspect into custody.

Earlier in the day, police said they were looking for an 18 year old suspect that was "known to the victim." Late this afternoon, police confirmed they had a suspect in custody, but were not releasing the name until an official arrest warrant is issued.

Maryville reacts to pastor's alleged killer deemed "not fit to stand trial"

5:12 PM Tue, Oct 20, 2009 |

I wasn't sure what to expect when talking to people in Maryville, Illinois about how a judge ruled today accused killer Terry Sedlacek is not fit to stand trial.

That means no chance of prison for him. He'll stay in a secure mental institution.

One of the first reactions I got was from a customer at Maryville Pharmacy. He used to go to Pastor Winters' First Baptist Church of Maryville. With regard to Sedlacek's not having a ...

Internet Scam by Chinese "Wholesalers"

4:31 PM Tue, Oct 20, 2009 |

A local woman had a good idea... buy wholesale and sell retail on ebay. Except she "bought" wholesale from Chinese companies online who ripped her off. She sent a Money gram... they sent empty boxes. No iPhones, no Playstations. The BBB says use a credit card - if the company doesn't want to go that route, that should be a big red flag.
At least with a credit card you have some recourse. That woman is now $1,700.00 poorer, but wiser...

If You're An Ameren UE Customer Beware of Rip-Off Artists

9:26 PM Mon, Oct 19, 2009 |

If you ask most people about cons and scams they'll tell you that it usually works because it plays on people's greed. That email in your inbox from the guy in Nigeria who wants you to hold $40 million dollars and then he'll give you 10% of it...?!?!?! All you need to do is give him your bank account information.

Yeah.

Right.

But the rip-off artists keep at it. This time they're trying to get bank and credit c...

More Pain for State Workers

9:16 PM Mon, Oct 19, 2009 |

A spokesman for Gover Jay Nixon told me tonight that it's possible that more jobs will be affected by the current budget crisis in Missouri.
Monday, over 100 workers in the state parks system found out they will be out of work.
Declining revenues show no sign of easing their slide. In this case, with the Department of Natural Resources, state parks rely solely on a tenth of a cent sales tax for funding. That re...

Experts: Don't Turn to Internet for Cheap Solution to H1N1

9:38 PM Sat, Oct 17, 2009 |

If you've checked your email lately you've probably noticed that you're seeing more spam these days related to H1N1 medications.

A study a few months ago found that 4% of spam emails were related to H1N1. The percentage is probably higher these days as the number of cases continues to climb. The Food & Drug Administration ordered several medications off the internet. So what happened? You can probably already guess. Invest...

Doses of H1N1 Vaccine Slow to Arrive

8:38 PM Fri, Oct 16, 2009 |

Some new numbers from the Centers for Disease Control are frightening. The CDC says 86 children have died from H1N1 in the United States. Half of those deaths came in September and early October alone. It would appear the H1N1 flu outbreak is only going to get worse.

The vaccines for H1N1 are on the way but they're slow in getting here. It was thought that more than 40 million doses would be available by the end of ...

The young St. Louis officer injured last week in an accident with a tractor trailer is leaving behind a wife and three children under the age of four. Officer Julius Moore was energetic and wanted to make a difference, according to his commanders. Now, fellow officers want to make a difference. While Moore's family sat vigil by his bedside, those officers were helping any way they could... cutting grass, doing chores, providing food, so rel...

St. Louis company reaping the benefits of H1N1 fears

4:43 PM Fri, Oct 16, 2009 |

Back in April, when the government declared an H1N1 health emergency, Vi-Jon saw a significant spike in demand for hand sanitizer.

They've gone from manufacturing nine-thousand gallons a day to 27-thousand gallons a day.

Vi-Jon had to increase production lines, add a shift and is about to add equipment.

I visited one of their three plants today in West St. Louis County (another is in ...

Silence of the Rams

8:31 PM Thu, Oct 15, 2009 |

Twice this week I had the chance to talk with Rams players about this Rush Limbaugh story, and both days I got the same answer. Rams players say it doesn't matter and they're not paying attention to the radio talk show host's efforts to be part of a group to buy the team (an effort that is now over).
If the players do have a strong opinion on Rush, they are doing a very good job of keeping it a secret. Chris Long told me h...

Just about everything in the restaurant will be sold at auction Saturday, October 24th and Sunday, October 25th. The sports stuff goes on the 25th.

Rush is Out

10:57 PM Wed, Oct 14, 2009 |

So Rush and his millions are "off the table", as far the Rams go. Dave Checketts announcing that Limabugh is no longer part of his group that is bidding on the Rams.
Those who love Rush are probably upset, and those who hate him are probably happy. Keep in mind this was only for the chance to buy the team and there was never any guarantee that Rush's group would have been the top bidder. It is also clear that there was...

H1N1 Vaccine Availability is Hard to Predict

8:20 PM Wed, Oct 14, 2009 |

I can tell you so far that the Saint Louis County Health Department has received two shipments of the H1N1 vaccine (first shipment included around 5,000 doses, the second was about 10,800) and that it expects to receive more shortly.

I can't tell you exactly when.

The availability of the H1N1 vaccine is unpredictable and means staying on top of news of new shipments.

Here is what the >> Continue reading: H1N1 Vaccine Availability is Hard to Predict

Ballwin budget cut good for geese, but...

7:22 PM Wed, Oct 14, 2009 |

Efforts to keep geese out of Ballwin city parks are about to be a bigger challenge. Their most effective deterrent... border collies... are not in next year's budget.

The city's been using specially-trained border collies to chase away (without attacking) about 100 geese from area parks and the golf course. But at a cost of more than $1,000 a month, the dogs didn't make the cut.

So next spring when the geese are nurturing the...

Bill Smith, an investigator with the Better Business Bureau went to the show with some collectibles for which he knew the value. The items were 1940s Superman comic books and trading cards, 1950s plastic Halloween decorations and a couple of old Mickey Mouse pins... one rare one wor...

Getting a Dr.'s Note

9:18 PM Tue, Oct 13, 2009 |

Union, Missouri has now joined Washington, Missouri as the only two cities in the country that now require a prescription to buy certain cold and flu medicines. The problem is that when Washington passed its law in June sales of the meds spiked in Union and officials say they think as much as 40 percent of those sales were for the illegal making of meth.
Making people get a doctors note for this can create a problem for some,...

It's hard to believe, but the IRS is now contacting people to let them know may be entitled to more stimulus money. A South County called News 4 after he received that letter from the IRS. At first, he thought the IRS wanted him to repay his stimulus money, but was relieved to find out it was the other way around; the IRS wanted to cut him a check. When all is said and done the IRS will send him a check for 6 hundred dollars. An IRS...

For the past two days I've been covering the ongoing northside redevelopment plan. We interviewed a local woman named Bonzella Smith, she's filed a lawsuit against the TIF board here in St. Louis. Paul McKee has said he will not use eminent domain to force homeowners out.
I asked Smith why she deci...

Men In Septic Tank Floating Down Meramec Rescued By Firefighters

5:16 PM Tue, Oct 13, 2009 |

I've covered a lot of unusual stories, but this one is right up there. Three young men floating on the Meramec River isn't unusual... but the fact that their "vessel" was a septic tank is. Sunday night, they put in about 5pm, and missed their exit point because they couldn't make it to shore. Eureka firefighters, aided by police, an off duty Kirkwood firefighter, and arch helicopter (providing light) rescued the trio about 10pm. 5 hours an...

Ozzie's Restaurant in Westport to Close

9:22 PM Mon, Oct 12, 2009 |

Those of us who have been around St. Louis for awhile can remember Stan Musial & Biggie's restaurant. Then in 1988 Ozzie's Restaurant & Sports Bar opened up in Westport. Mike Shannon has a restaurant downtown these days and Albert Pujols has his place at Westport. Jim Edmonds invested in a place downtown There aren't a ton of sports bars around St. Louis associated with big names. So it really does feel like something of a passing of...

Cardinal Nation Bummed Out

9:19 PM Sat, Oct 10, 2009 |

Think back to last spring. Around St. Louis excitement was growing as the baseball season was just about to get started. The experts pretty much had written off the Cardinals. Conventional wisdom said the Cubs, the dreaded, hated, much-despised Cubs would win the National League Central. But baseball is a funny game. What is supposed to happen oftentimes doesn't.

Day in and day out it was another glorious season for Car...

Reporter stumbles into pretty good story

6:18 PM Fri, Oct 02, 2009 |

No, I'm not talking about myself, although that does happen from time to time.

I'm talking about Heather Cole, reporter for Missouri Lawyers Weekly. She was walking to grab a bite of lunch last Friday near her downtown office when she noticed papers blowing in the wind. She also noticed nearly a dozen large, plastic bins with no lids full of papers outside Macy's. What was this?

Turns out they were old papers waiting to be h...

Beason Murder Suspect Ex-Husband of Victims' Daughter

I went to Beason today to get reaction from residents about the arrest of Christopher Harris, Nicole Gee's ex-husband. You could tell the town is very much still on edge, and who could blame them. Beason is very small, and the Gee family was well known. They are also still frightened because some don't believe one person could have killed the family by himself. That means they believe a killer is still on the loose.
