A couple of sports notes tied into the economy---we keep hearing about the need for the economy to get rolling again, how people need to spend money and get the wheels rolling on the economic engine that drives this country. That's why it was good to see a couple things today. First, the Mizzou / Illinois Arch Rivalry game at the Edward Jones Dome today. It was good to see people out around the downtown area, giving it energy, eating at the restaurants, sleeping in the hotels, filling up Laclede's Landing. Spending $$$. Black & Gold, Orange & Blue are great. Green is wonderful. Also, the Cardinals won tonight (2-1 over Pittsburgh...Pujols let loose with a pinch-hit home run in the top of the 10th). The Cards are heading to the post-season (unless they have a meltdown of historic proportions) but it's great to see them keep adding up the "W's". Why? Because they could gain home field advantage in the post-season and that could mean an extra game in St. Louis. And extra energy downtown, and more people in the restaurants, shops, and hotels. |
