A south St. Louis man had his Pit Bull puppy stolen out of his backyard. Animal Rescue groups will tell you that Pit Bulls are often used for fighting, breeding or as "bait dogs."

What's somewhat surprising, or perhaps, disappointing would be a better word, is that something like this happens when the St. Louis area is still dealing with the aftermath of the largest dog-fighting ring raid in US history. The Humane Society of Missouri still has more than 400 Pit Bulls that were seized during that raid. We're still living in the aftermath of the Michael Vick case when the spotlight was shone upon the ugly business of dog fighting.

Rescue groups will tell you that a raid like that will put a dent in the dog fighting business but it's not going to stop it.
