Every car, truck and van that is turned in for the Cash for Clunkers program faces the same fatal ending. I found out that when dealers take in these old vehicles they must fill the engine with a saline solution and run the vehicle until the engine seizes. Then it's off to the scrap yard where a good number of parts in these cars are damaged and unusable.
The government wants these gas guzzlers off the road, but there is concern that this may also drive up the replacement parts market for those still hanging on to older vehicles.
