The Missouri Public Service Commission has 11 months to decide if it will grant a rate hike to Ameren UE. The power company filed a request for a hike Friday afternoon. Ameren UE is asking for an increase of 18% to cover the costs of system wide improvements at a time when the company says it is bringing in less revenue. In the meantime, Ameren UE is also asking for something called an interim rate adjustment. It would show up as a separate line on your electric bill. Ameren is asking for an interim hike of 1.67% by October 1, 2009. The public service commission would have to approve the smaller request too. Typically, the PSO hold public hearings on rate hikes that affect a large number of customers. I checked with the PSO today and they have not set a timetable on when those hearings may be held. These are the commissioners making the decision. To read Ameren UE's filing, go to this section of the Public Service Commission's website. Put in the file date which is July 24, 2009. Here is what Ameren UE says about their rate hike request. Here is where you can find more information about the Missouri Public Council. |
