You've heard it before: there's two sides to every story. I'd like to amend that to say: there are at least two sides to every story. This is especially true when it comes to abortion. You have the side that does not believe abortion is acceptable under any circumstance. You have the side that believes it's unacceptable unless the health of the mother is at risk. There's the side that believes abortion is acceptable in many cases. You see where I'm going with this? Tonight, I covered a local memorial service held for Dr. George Tiller, the abortion doctor killed Sunday in Kansas. Some at the service knew Dr. Tiller personally and were clearly grieving the loss of a friend. At the same time, the issue of what it means to be pro-choice or pro-abortion also came up. A portion of the service was dedicated to allowing attendees to stand up and share what was on their minds. Many expressed anger over the violence, but also expressed a need for police to do more to protect those who work in clinics. Others urged the attendees to do more to demonstrate their beliefs. Faith Aloud organized the vigil. Their executive director expressed concern there could be more violence and urged police to offer more protection. Also today, the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops released a statement denouncing the violence. What do you make of this? What's going through your mind? |
