| Relief for U-City flood victims could be a ways away »
The same street where an elderly couple died in flood waters last September had residents seeking higher ground for their things again. The waters rose and receeded quickly... people got all they could save out of their basements and garages and moved them into their living rooms and kitchens. Patrice Carter gave me the tour... power tools, clothes on hangers, extra furniture, washer and dryer all moved upstairs makikng the family's living space unliveable. People around here say they've had it and are waiting for the day the city buys them out. Judy Baum told me she's experienced the wrath of University City flooding 4 times in 8 years. She says she loves the neighborhood but can't take this anymore. Another family told me they just finished buying new things and repairing the damage from the September 2008 flood and now they're in the same boat. More rain's on the way. |
