"Buyout" is the big word on Wilson Avenue these days. 26 homeowners want the city to buy their homes so they can move somewhere where they don't have to worry about a flood every time they hear rain pelting their house. U-City MAY apply for a $3-million state grant to put toward the buyouts. But in order to get that money U-City needs to chip in its own $1-million. That's the tricky part... convincing city councilmember to vote to dip into the city's reserves. Not to far from Wilson Avenue on Old Bonhomme at least a couple of homeowners blame MSD for stormwater runoff off a golf course across the street which flooded their basements and garages and ruined a couple of cars Wednesday night. MSD says it's doing what it can to alleviate storm water problems but they too have limited funds. It's never a great time to live in or near a flood plain, but in this economy, getting out of one seems even more challenging. |
