Eminent domain looks like it could be a very real possibility for some metro east homeowners who live along the O'Fallon, Fairview Heights border. Everyone agrees that a section of Old Collinsville Road between Frontage Road and Milburn School Road needs to be expanded to three lanes because of recent increased traffic. The problem is that both cities are having trouble securing the land and they're working on a strict timeline. The project is expected to cost 2.6 million dollars, a significant portion of that money ($900,000) is coming from the state of illinois and IDOT wants to know why the project's not moving forward. Work on the road expansion was expected to begin in July of this year. I spoke to residents who live in both cities and the consensus is they want to be paid for the land, not have the cities take it. 3 CommentsLeave a comment |

what part of the road north or south
I just updated the blog. The area in question is Old Collinsville Road between Frontage Road and Milburn School Road.
I think that it is unfair, many of the houses if not all that are on this portion of Old Collinsville Road are new or recently built houses. They should have thought about how much land they would need to expand the road. I don't think htat these people should have to give up their land. And I don't think the goverment should have the right to take something just to get a job done. What's the point in having a voice and option if they are going to just take it anyway.
