Three people are dead in two separate incidents on the Meramec River. I can't tell you how many times I've reported these sad stories. The Meramec looks like a lazy river but it is much more complicated than that. It has shifting sand bars, channels that suddenly drop off, and swirling currents. I am not an experienced boater - and I've never been swimming in the Meramec - my impressions instead come from what the water patrol says after each accident. As we approach another summer season, let's hope this weekend is the exception, not the norm.
