Coleman Murder Investigation Enters 6th Day

10:12 PM Mon, May 11, 2009 |

It has been six days since police discovered the bodies of Sheri Coleman and her 11 and 9 year old sons in their Columbia home. Today, we learned the detectives on this case asked for Chris Coleman's fingerprints (through a court order) and Coleman was at the police station in Columbia to comply on Monday afternoon.

What does this mean? Frankly, it is hard to say. The deputy commander of the Major Case Squad said that Coleman is not a suspect. In fact, Major Jeff Connors would not comment on whether they've identified a suspect at all. Major Connors said that the fingerprints would be compared to any evidence detectives may have collected. It's a purposefully vague statement, given as detectives follow the investigation into a sixth straight day.

Right now, it is clear that detectives are going to proceed with caution. It's likely we won't know the name of a suspect until that person is officially charged with a crime - if someone is charged.

The Major Case Squad, which typically assembles for only five days, plans to continue their investigation for several more days.

In the meantime, flowers, stuffed animals, and cards continue to pile up outside the Coleman house. Simple words like, "We'll miss you at school Gavin" written in a child's handwriting strike a chord.
