Chrysler Dealerships

10:22 PM Thu, May 14, 2009 |

In working on this story about the dealerships that are being cut loose by Chrysler it's not difficult to see why some dealerships are feeling betrayed.
At Century Chrysler in Wentzville, the owners tell me in the last few months they were buying as many as 30 extra cars a month just to help out the struggling automaker. And now they're left with these cars on their lot, lost in an economy that has seen auto sales plunge. Chrysler, they tell me, has no intention of buying back the 4.7 million dollars worth of cars on their lot.

I fear that Chrysler's decision to close the Century dealership in Wentzville shows that this company's excutives have failed to turn around their bad decision-making. Even though it was fruitless, I sent such a message to Chrysler's headquarters. To close a dealership in western St. Charles County which is the fastest growing area in Missouri and one of the fastest nationwide shows the lack of foresight that has plagued U.S. automakers and especially Chrysler and GM. So sorry for the folks at Century who I have dealt with on many occasions and wish them the best of luck in moving on.
