Local Student May Have Swine Flu

11:01 PM Wed, Apr 29, 2009 |

20 year old Michael Hairsine is currently under voluntary quarantine in Ellisville, Missouri after doctors discovered he may have the Swine Flu. I spoke to him tonight on the phone and he told me that he's in shock. Hairsine attends Loyola University in Chicago and says that he started feeling ill this weekend. "On Saturday I started having seasonal allergy symptoms. By the next morning, I woke up and I felt like a train wreck. I had a dizzy headache, my body was really weak, I had chills, I had bas chest pain in my lungs and I had a terrible cough" Hairsine said.

Hairsine has not been to Mexico and believes he may have contracted the illness in an open air market in Chicago. After visiting Loyola University Health Center doctors advised him that he need to stay away from people and take Tamiflu for five days. Hairsine is now resting at home in Ellisville. He says that he has to stay in his room until Monday and should find out later this week if does in fact have the Swine Flu. For now his mother is the only person who he has contact with. He says that she keeps her distance and is caring for her son by bring him food or anything else he may need.

You'll hear my interview with Hairsine tomorrow morning on "Awake" with News Four.

Currently there are nine probable Swine Flu cases in Illinois. Hairsine says he does not know any of the other people who could possibly be infected.

Hoping you don't have the swine flu. Take care of yourself and hoping you get better quickly.
