Friends Turn Out to Remember a Life Too Short

10:07 PM Sun, Apr 26, 2009 |

We're just now leaving a vigil just south of Cahokia for 13-year-old Ryan Hennemann. He was killed yestercday when the bed of a dumptruck collapsed on him.

His was a life cut way too short. But he touched a lot of people. More than 100 friends turned out tonight for this candlelight vigil. There were a few things that stood out. It wasn't organized by an adult, but rather one of Ryan's friends, a 17-year-old. The friend said he wanted to do something for Ryan because Ryan would have done something for him. Word of the vigil spread quickly.

One of the friends that spoke tonight said while grief was understandable they should go out and do something nice, in Ryan's name. It was a message that said, "go out...get involved...don't let your grief overwhelm you but honor our friend by doing something worthwhile..."

Hopefully, they will take her advice.
