When Illinois State Police and O'Fallon Police called a Tuesday afternoon news conference about Monday night's apparent murder and killer getting shot by police I was anticipating some unusual circumstance that would blow my mind. Turns out there was no such detail. Sadly, what happened at an O'Fallon apartment complex was all too familiar. A husband shoots and kills his wife. Then he calls police and gets them to shoot and kill him (by pointing his rifle at them and refusing to put it down). How does a couple married 20 years (or even 20 minutes) end up like this? If they can't get along, it seems they could just go their seperate ways, but I realize in some cases (perhaps this one) one of the spouses doesn't want to let go or doesn't want to see the other one move on happily without them. I'll never know what motivated James Jenkins to kill his wife and force a cop to kill him, but whatever the reason, it seems pretty selfish. Now their kids have no parents. James and Adrian's families have lost loved ones. And what about the officer who used lethal force... You think he's sleeping soundly tonight? I doubt it. Sad. 1 CommentsLeave a comment |

I am a police officer. I have been involved in a shooting. It wasn't easy and it changed my life. I feel bad for the victims family and I feel bad for the officer and his family. It's getting arder and harder to wear the badge everyday.
