Three area restaurants get stimulus from cable TV show

8:51 PM Wed, Feb 25, 2009 |

Prepare to see a few more people dining at Pappy's Smokehouse on Olive Street, Iron Barley on Virginia Avenue and Crown Candy Kitchen on St. Louis Avenue in the coming days and weeks.

All three restaurants were featured Wednesday night on the Travel Channel's "Man v. Food" show.

The owner of Crown Candy Kitchen said with the utmost confidence, "It's going to give me a 10% to 20% boost in business."

And that's before the reruns. Show host Adam Richman likes to do food challenges... you know, see how much of something he could eat. He'd never tried cold food before. So he went to Crown Candy to try to drink 5 huge milk shakes in 30 minutes. He didn't quite make it.

The folks at Pappy's Smokehouse aren't exactly sure what to expect. They've only been in business about a year. But they're preparing for coast to coast requests for their sauces.

Apologies to Iron Barley. We didn't have time to make it out there, but I enjoyed checking out their huge roasted pork loin and monte cristo dog on the show.
