The St Louis Tea Party

9:09 PM Tue, Feb 24, 2009 |

A "classic tax payer revolt" is how conversative radio talk show host and popular blogger Dana Loesch put it.
Friday at 11 am possibly a hundred and maybe more will rally at the Arch steps against the Stimulus Act and the tax burden they expect it to have on us all.
Dumping tea of course goes back to 1773 when patriots under disguise dumped English tea into Boston harbor rather than pay a tax.
Loesch points out some of things she finds as wasteful in the new act. Things such as $250,000 to put blue shutters on historic buildings, $650,000 for a camping site and $5 million for a dog park. These are certainly not exactly the shining stars of this act. But the act does aim to create or save 69,000 jobs in Missouri over the next two years and create or save 148,000 jobs in Illinois over the next two years.
Ultimately we'll know over time if this stimulus act is a waste of money or the spark the economy needs. Organizers say they don't trust government on both sides of the poitical aisle to fix this problem, but clearly most of th frustration here is being directed at the president. So, even this early in his term and given the state of the economy it will be interesting to see how many attend the tea party.

Matt,

Thanks so much for reporting on this story. I am going to this protest on Fri. It is good to see some coverage on it.

See you at the Tea Party.

This is a news story? 100 people going to protest? There were 100,000 at the rally for Obama last October! America has spoken as to what direction we need to go! Your bias is REALLY showing!

What does 100,000 people at an Obama Rally have to do with anything? The people that were bussed in on a Saturday for a rally have nothing to do with what is going on Friday.

Mike Koetting said:

I'll be at the protest because I care about a gov't that sees no problem in destoying any chance future generations have to repay the debt we throw on them. What amazes me even further is people that back this spending knowing it will give only temporary relief at best and they still would rather avoid the pain now and bankrupt our kids. When we have no idea how we will fund Social Security in a few years, how could anyone be fool enough to think borrowing more money now is the answer to any long term unanswered problems. The simplistic approach of people like Kurt above astounds me. Mike Koetting

I saw the interview with Dana this morning and it was obvious this woman has no grasp of reality. The fact is, there are two major playground equipment manufacturers in this state that are struggling everyday to keep people employed. For her to say the money for these types of projects are pork is rediculous. If we don't have work, the whole community suffers. Tax breaks do nothing for someone who does not receive a paycheck.

Should have had it on a Saturday. The people that would like to protest paying for others all have JOBS and can't go on a Friday.

after attending the St Louis Tea Party today, i must borrow a phrase from michelle obama,... 'i am proud of my Country again'.

The event has pictures up on Flikr, Photobucket, Gateway Pundit and 24thstate.

There were between 1500-2000 there. That number comes from a count I made at 11:30.

Anyone that brands Obama a socialist automatically disqualifies themselves from any rational, truthful debate. Sure many policies are socialistic like Social Security or HMO's, but in no way is Obama a Socialist. He isn't even for nationalizing the banks, which would be a hallmark of Socialism.

Jim Durbin said:

Brian,

"not interested in nationalizing the banks," and yet he won't allow JP Morgan Chase to pay back $25 billion in a TARP loan.

Care to rethink that statement? The only reason to prevent repayment is to control what the banks do.
