While it's impossible to couch anything about the school closing situation as good news, Superintendent Dr. Kelvin Adams announced his recommendations Thursday night that 17, not 29 schools should be closed. A couple hundred people, mainly school system employees, showed up to the meeting. About a half a dozen people didn't stick around to find out which schools would stay open and which ones would close. That's because they were compelled to interrupt the Superintendent and disrupt the gathering just as Dr. Adams was beginning to go down the list of schools. These few people were all too proud to show off their lack of class and decorum. I'm all in favor of holding up signs at the meeting or chanting and protesting outside the building... I'm very pro-free speech...but to me, to start yelling during a public meeting is a silly way to get attention. Of course, from a TV news standpoint it makes for entertaining TV so of course a few seconds make it on the 10 o'clock news. Seems to me if you have a legitimate point to make, sign up before the meeting, step up to the podium and take your three minutes. Perhaps I'm wrong, though. If you disagree feel free to email me... or just hold up a sign and yell in my direction if you see me in public. |
