I got together with four former administrative assistants and one former teacher's assistant Friday afternoon outside Normandy's Jefferson Elementary School. They'd been with the Normandy School District from 6 to 22 years. They told me they loved the kids, their colleagues and wanted to retire at Normandy Schools. A couple of the ladies told me they were just a couple of years away from retiring. While they acknowledge the economic plight of their school system (and plenty of others around here) a couple of the former employees said they feel their being let go was personal. They say there are people with less experience who still have their jobs. The school system says it had to make the cuts because of the erosion of students in recent years... and with fewer kids comes less money. I hope these five women I met find new jobs soon that not only pay the bills but enrich them like their last job did. 1 CommentsLeave a comment |

I feel the ladies who were "layed off" after having only 2 years before retirement should have either been offered a "early retirement package"...this just proves/confirms my thoughts of how management treat it's "lifers'...I too was an employee of more than 24 years at "Hospital", I too was terminated with excellent work history...You/we work, put in all our time..and, our rewards are basically a slap in the face! Those mentioned above will remain in my prayers.
