Health Fair: A Record Turnout

7:59 PM Sat, Feb 07, 2009 |

Night after night on the news we talk about the economy. We often talk of "signs of the economic times." Here's one more--people are putting off their healthcare.

I was at the Missouri Baptist Medical Center today for their health fair. The woman who organized this event has been doing it for 16 years. She said this year's crowd was the largest ever. Nearly 600 people turned out to have their blood pressure checked, cholesterol checked, speak with dietitians etc.

She said the economic times have a definite impact on how people take care of themselves, or don't take care of themselves. When gas is $4 a gallon the money goes into your tank and to pay bills. It doesn't go for healthcare.

On the bright side--the people who did attend today got quite a bargain. The services they received for free were worth anywhere from $400 to $500 per person. A family of four could have saved up to $2000.

Not bad for these economic tough times.

If you missed the healthfair today keep watching News 4 for other updates. We'll let you know about other events so you can mark them on your calendar.
