About 20 Granite City Steel workers and their family members gathered at a popular hang out the Park Grill Tuesday night to watch President Obama's address to Congress. There was almost as much applause among those at the Park Grill as their was among lawmakers at the Capitol. The loudest applause from the steel workers came when President Obama talked about keeping jobs from going overseas. They also really liked it when he said the country's economy will "rebuild, recover and emerge stronger than before." One of the guys said while President Obama makes him feel optimistic about the future, the present will continue to be a struggle. One recently laid off steel worker says he may go to work for the border patrol somewhere along the Mexican border or in Montana. Others also mentioned they're willing to move for a good job. 1 CommentsLeave a comment |
