The best way to find out how well the politicians in Washington are doing is to just go out and talk with people. Many I found do follow the debate over the stimulus package and they have strong feelings about it. 9 CommentsLeave a comment |

I just watched the Newscast on the possible Stimulus Package and I am furious. I am a few months away from foreclosure and I want to know, WHO IS GOING TO HELP ME? What financial genius came up with this plan, that you have to buy a new car or home to receive a tax break from this Stimulus Package? I can't afford to buy a new car. I definitely can't afford to buy another home. It sounds like to me, Congress is working on, yet another, bill/package that is only going to help the people like themselves, the ones who don't need the help.
The people who need the help are the unemployed and the people losing their homes. How does this package help them?
This stimulis package is just a recipe for disaster. Where is the money to back up this plan coming from? The tax payers. If we're in a recession, this will certainly put us in a depression. These politicians really must think that the public is so naive that they will believe that this BILL will generate an upswing in the economy. The ONLY thing this bill is doing is buying votes from the major CEOs and the unions.
If the Senate really wants to do good for the people, they should vote this bill down. If not, every foreign country will eventually take control of our finanaces. Such a pity.
I think the whole stimulus plan thing stinks. Our elected officials aren't attempting to help Joe the Plumber, Joe Six-Pack, or Joe the Ordinary Citizen. It's the same thing over again; help for the same people who screwed things up in the first place: Joe CEO and Joe Politician. I wish I could ruin the entire economy of the United States, and probably the entire civilized world, cause hardworking people to lose their jobs, homes, and lifesavings, and Congress and the Senate would would give me billions upon billions of taxpayer dollars, and tell me next year I might not be able to earn(?) more than $400,000. Why don't these people get arrested just like the guy that's gonna have to steal a gallon of milk for his hungry babies because they lost their job and house. That's taxpayer money. Why can't we vote on where the money goes? Better yet, give it back to the taxpayers. Giving half of the $900 billion "stimulus money" to the 223.4 million legal citizens over 18 years old in this country would mean approximately $5000 per person, or $10,000 for a married couple. If you were worried about losing your house you could satisfy the mortgage company. The people that would just spend the money would be stimulating the economy, helping others to keep their jobs. I doubt many people would stuff it under their mattresses. The other half of the bailout could go toward Congress' economic stimulii, like new sod for DC's mall, and new cars for government employees.
Who is going to be helped by writing off sales tax on a new car? Anybody thinking of buying a new car these days isn't really struggling. Rebates on new home sales? If you can get approved for a new home loan nowadays, since lenders are actually screening clients' finances since the last bailout, you probably aren't feeling the pinch anyway.
Same thing over and over again.
I'm not seeing a stimulus here even though that is what the money was intended for. My credit card company received part of the stimulus package and they turned around and increased rates 4% or more on their good customers.
People are getting mad, I'm mad. Not only is my tax money going to make up for those who don't pay but now the companies are changing the rules to strong arm their good companies. The best our goverment can do is restrict them way way down the road and toss my tax money at them?
That's just wrong, how about prosecuting some mortgage lenders already.
I agree with the comments from Steve. It seems to me they are throwing away more of our hard earned tax dollars. We, The people are hurting. It will do no good for my houshold to have a tax break for a new car or low mortgage rates for purchasing a home. I am going to be lucky to hold on to the home and vehicle I currently have. Why doesn't someone get some of the money out to US. It seems logical to me that if we had some substantial money to pay down or off our mortgages, the banks would be better off without all of the foreclosures and we could be out there spending money to get the economy moving again. IS ANYONE LISTENING?
Here's my plan to stimulate the economy...
Instead of bailing companies out, take that $750
billion and give every person who paid taxes last year a check for $50,000 or $100,000. Instead of the trickle down theory, call it the trickle up theory. It would cost less than the bailouts being concidered and help more people. People would buy cars and homes, take vacations, spend all or some of the money, which would create jobs. And for those who choose to save, the banks would have money to loan. The companies that survive and prosper deserve it, the ones that don't obviously aren't doing something right. And the bailout could still help companies such as the auto industry by giving consumers and dealers something for buying an American made car. And the politian that gets this running will win re-election as long as he or she runs for office!
The government should be helping the seniors. Seniors over 65 should not have to pay school tax on their Property Tax. We've paid our share. Now it's up to the next generation.
Also, we should not have to automatically take money our of our 401K's unless we want to. Most of the time it throws us into another tax bracket and we get double taxed at tax time.
About new cars. All they need to do is lower the price and give the buyer money to pay the taxes and more people will buy them.

took the time to cool off after the story about the plan.
the working class carries the big business out there as well as the people who are voting on all of this.maybe it's time to pull off another O'Bama and vote in some new to congress as well as to big business.
i get so mad when i hear about all of our money going to trips and bonuses for the same people that lost all of our money for us.what is wrong with this picture? doesn't anyone care about doing a good job for everyone any more?since when is bad behavior rewarded?
