BANK BAILOUTS

10:11 PM Wed, Feb 04, 2009 |

In doing this story about local banks getting money from Uncle Sam, I did go over the long list of banks, and some of these dollar amounts are staggering. And for that reason I wanted to share the top ones here.

$25 billion each to Wells fargo, JP Morgan Chase and Citigroup.
$15 billion to Bank of America in October.
$10 billion each to Morgan Stanley and Goldman Sachs.
$10 billion to bank of America in January (originally for Merrill Lynch).
$7.5 billion to PNC.
$6.5 billion to US Bancorp.
$3.5 billion each to Capital One, Regions, and SunTrust.
$3.4 billion to Fifth Third.

The smallest amount went to a Missouri bank.
$1,037,000. to Calvert Financial in Ashland, Missouri

The formula the government used is that the amount could be no greater that 3 percent of the bank's assets.
