Five weeks ago my reporter colleague Laurie Waters did a story on a South City couple facing foreclosure.

Last night my reporter colleague Julian Grace did a follow up story on some good news for the couple but he did't get to put it together for air because of breaking news he had to go to... a fire.

With both Laurie and Julian off tonight, it was my turn. I watched the video and the interviews Julian and our photographer colleague Rob shot yesterday and I wrote the story to air Friday at 10.

This is by no means the ideal way to do the news, but from time to time this is how it's done.

What's really cool about this is why we did a follow up story. You see, Laurie's original story on December 2nd detailed how Donald and Kimberly Fielder were about to lose their home after being four months behind on their payments.

They tried to work something out with their lender Citigroup, but they still couldn't make the payments so they were going to lose their home. When Citigroup tried to sell the mortgage their were no buyers. The Fielders say after Laurie's story on them aired they got a phone call they prayed for but never thought would come. It was Citigroup.

They ended up working out a payment schedule that works for the Fielders and they get to keep the home they've lived in for 11 years.

Nice.
