I always get a little suspicious of many of these studies and surveys that put out lists of cities and try to rank them. After all, may of us probably would rather have been in San Diego instead of shoveling snow this week. Stll, Pew Research found that only 18 percent of people living in St. Louis actually want to stay here. 5 CommentsLeave a comment |

born here, went away to school, came back got married and stayed with the rest of the family. work at one company for 35 years.
it had all I needed
I have been born and raised here in St.Louis. Been around the world in places like Japan, Korea, Singapore, Iran, Phillippine Islands Austrailia, compliments of the United States Navy. My ship was homeported out of Yokosuka Japan and some of us had apartments around the Navel base. No place I'd rather be than in my hometown of St. Louis. Who cares if it snows every once in a while. God's sake, get out and shovel some snow. Good work out for ya. Makes you appreciate good weather when we get it. St. Louis is my hometown and I'm stayin, period.
My husband and I moved here 3 years ago from California. Were here because of my husbands job transfer with Boeing, and settled in Manchester. Living here has brought us some deep heart ache. The people in our neighborhood have been unkind despite our efforts to get along. No one showed us any, and I mean not a drop of hospitality. Yes, we have been harassed.
Our alderman, who ran for mayor showed up at our door one day and made it clear to us that he did not like California when he lived out there. He said he did not like the people. There are how many millions of people in California, and he could not get along with any of them? I guess it’s our fault. He did not win the mayor seat, thank goodness.
I have come to the conclusion that many, not all, of the folks who live here like to hate. It seems as if they look for a reason to be unhappy.
There are many churches in Manchester, and all over St. Louis, but the place seems spiritually depleted.
No we don't like it here, but we keep trying to find the good things. Forest Park is fun.
I think we are going to have to move from our home and find a better place to live. We may go back to California in a couple of years. Frankly I would love to move back home, and forget about St. Louis.
"Pew Research found that only 18 percent of people living in St. Louis actually want to stay here"
That is not what the study says at all! Of the ~2,000 people polled nationwide, only 18% said they want to live in St. Louis (79% said they did not want to live here). There was no polling specific to St. Louis asking if people wanted to stay or go. The "grass is greener" bit refers to the 46% of those polled in the whole country who said they'd rather live in a different type of community than the one they currently live in.
