I met the St. Peters family burned out of their apartment Monday. Nice, hard-working folks trying to make a good life for their kids. Unfortunately it was their youngest daughter who caused the disaster.

She'd put something on the stove and went upstairs with her brother to listen to music. When they noticed the fire, they got out. No one was hurt.

The 11-year old feels bad, but her parents say they feel blessed. Blessed their kids are okay. Blessed they have friends they didn't know they had. And blessed the family bible survived the flames.

The Middlebrooks are staying at a hotel their landlord is paying for. Their kids' school even offered to send a cab to get them to school.

Lots of good people coming out of the wood work, but this is really tough. You always think this sort of thing happens to someone else. The Middlebrook family did. Best wishes to them.
