Governor Matt Blunt is on his way out of office but before he gives up his desk in Jefferson City to Jay Nixon he pardoned a couple of Missouri women who were in prison because they had killed men who abused them. One of the women is Charity Sue Carey. She's from a small town in southeast Missouri. The other woman you might have heard of. Stacey Lannert from St. John in north St. Louis county shot and killed her father, Tom, in 1990 when she was 18 years old. She said he'd been abusing her since she was 8. Prosecutors contend that Lannert did it for the money she would inherit. Tom Lannert's father called Stacey a pathological liar. The Overland detective who first interviewed Stacey Lannert said it was fairly evident from the beginning that Lannert had been abused. He says, yes, she should have served some time, but a life sentence was too much. The governor has now agreed. 1 CommentsLeave a comment |
