They were a little embarrassed, but better to be embarrassed than dead. Three generations of the Wheat family went to bed Saturday night and ALMOST didn't wake up Sunday morning at their Millstadt, Illinois home. There was a Carbon Monoxide leak. Oh, they had two CO detectors. They just weren't installed. Big mistake. Everyone started feeling sick, but not until one family member fell to the floor after trying to open a bottle of Tylenol did Wanda Wheat realize what was happening. She remembered they were having problems with the furnace and their landlord had worked on it Saturday and was going to work on it some more Sunday. She called 9-1-1 and emergency crews got their in time to get everyone out and to the hospital where Bobby and Wanda, their sons Matthew and Andy and grandson Austin spent the night. All are okay and by the way, their CO detectors are up on some bedroom walls. They are very lucky and I was happy not to have to report on a family tragedy. |
