Sanity Reigns (at least where I was)

12:59 PM Fri, Nov 28, 2008 |

Black Friday in Brentwood sure felt subdued. I was reporting live at the Best Buy from 5 to 7 in the morning. When they opened the doors at 4:55am people WALKED inside. No pushing, shoving, yelling... how it should be.

The funny thing to me was some people camped out all night... some had even been there since 10am on Thanksgiving... to be sure they got great deals on laptops, TVs, GPS, etc...

It didn't seem necessary. Once the line dispersed into the store, people just started coming in intermitantly and everyone I talked to was able to get what they came for.

A Best Buy manager said he was pleased with how efficient everything was going and the lines to check out weren't that bad... At the early morning peak it only took about 30 minutes... Credit good employees and perhaps not as many customers at the electronics giant would have liked.

Most of the people I talked to said they planned to spend less by buying gifts for fewer people this year. One customer apologized to her step-sisters on camera. I'm sure they won't mind... Now they don't have to buy a gift for her.
