Doesn't it seem like the Presidential campaign has been going on for YEARS?? At least the negative campaigning. With so much interest (and so many conspiracy theories) voter turnout is going to be high. Already we're seeing evidence of dirty tricks - misinformation designed to keep voters deemed not supportive of "your" candidate away from the polls.
But you do have rights. You can go to the Secretary of State's website (we've got a link to that one with my story) or to the Election Board website for your area. And this year, there are even national websites to keep an eye on fraud or dirty tricks. But in a nutshell... you can help yourself. Know your correct polling place - find it on the websites mentioned above or call your election headquarters. Bring i.d. - your voter card that came in the mail, driver's license, medicaid card, college i.d. or something with your address - utility bill or bank statement. If you're in line at 7 when the polls close, you'll be allowed to vote. If they can't find you on the rolls, ask for a provisional ballot. That way, if they find you later, your vote counts!!
