Would you boo a candidate?

8:12 AM Thu, Oct 23, 2008 |

We will soon find out as GOP Vice-Presidential nominee Sarah Palin is scheduled to drop the ceremonial puck before the Blues-Kings game Friday night.

The Blues invited her since she's going to be in Springfield Friday morning.

When Palin dropped the puck in Philadelphia recently, boos drowned out any cheers. (Of course, Philly fans booed Santa Claus).

Personally, I can't imagine booing a politician at a sporting event no matter how much I may disagree with his/her politics. I think people running for (or occupying) high offices deserve a certain level of respect. I wouldn't feel obligated to cheer for someone I disagree with but booing just seems classless and borderline cowardly since there's no way the candidate can directly respond to each fans' behavior.

Imagine if you were the only one in the room and a candidate you opposed walked in. I bet you wouldn't boo. You'd probably smile and shake the candidate's hand. Maybe even try to get a picture with that candidate.

I'd like to see St. Louis sports fans show the class they're known for and not boo Palin or any other candidate who may step on the home ice.
