Why does Missouri not have early voting?

5:51 PM Wed, Oct 29, 2008 |

I called the Secretary of State's Office today in Jefferson City and a spokesperson told me that early voting is something state leaders have looked into. Dating all the way back to 2005 Secretary Carnahan's pushed a bill asking the Missouri House and Senate to consider it. If passed, Carnahan would like to see two weeks of early voting. It would start three weeks before the election and end one week prior. Her spokesperson says that early voting would address to issues in the state (1) wait times and (2) voters would be able to vote when it's convenient.

I asked if she'll push for it again, and was told if re-elected Carnahan she will.

Do you think Missouri needs to adopt early voting?

I recommend state leaders inact early voting in Missouri. Missouri is always a footstep beind other states is being progressive. Now we are at a crossroads and all I see is chaos on Tuesday. It shouldn't be that way. It could have been prevented. Will we wait until another very important election to even consider it?
