What fun today at Washington University. This is when I feel so lucky to be a reporter.
Walking around the campus today, doing my story, I felt like a kid in a candy store, even though this is the third time I've covered a Presidential (or VP) debate.
The mood was lighthearted because it is the day "before" the event. Hard work is underway... and has been underway for a long time... but there is still time to fix problems. Tomorrow.... the energy level (and the stress level) will be much higher. As the clock winds down... the stakes rise.
So much more complicated than when two candidates met in a small town hall and duked it out for the local folks. 60 countries have reporters here. Even the Al Jazeera network is here, as Ray Preston reported.
You know what else? Among the food provided... Dem. and Rep. cookies... red and blue, of course. An elephant and a donkey. Apparently, as my photographer told me, the cookies are controversial. Someone tried to poll which one was the favorite as a way of discerning which party was the favorite. But there was a flaw. An elephant is bigger than a donkey... and guess which one was the favorite? You decide... are there more republicans among the media... or just bigger cookie monsters?
