I just walked into the KMOV newsroom and found out the Sears store is closing at Jamestown Mall. Normally, a store closing wouldn't make me think twice, but my grandmother used to work at Jamestown. I remember the days we used to vist her at the Boyd's department store, those days are long gone. It seems like the mall was always packed, just like Northwest Plaza in St. Ann. I recently drove by Northwest and noticed the parking lot looked like a ghost town, and there were very few stores left inside. I have to wonder, what is the future of these once prominent places to shop? I can't imagine the buidlings are obsolete, it seems like there should be a way to save these centers that were once vital to the north county economy. I hope city leaders in St. Ann and in St. Louis County can figure out a way to save these shopping centers, before these huge buildings are totally empty. It would be a shame to see two blighted malls standing in the place of prosperity.
