I got a kick out of something the other day. I was driving on Loughborough by I-55 and about 100 yards apart stood two men holding up signs. One guy's self-made sign said something like, "Homeless, need money." And he collected cash from people kind enough or feeling guilty enough to roll down their car windows and give him some money. The other guy was holding up a professionally-made sign that said something like, "Little Caesar's Pizza." He too was collecting cash... in the form of a pay check from a restaurant. Clearly, both men are capable of standing near a major street and holding up a sign for income... But the Little Caesar's guy puts in an honest days work and pays taxes. Good for him. I respect that. At the end of the day though, I wonder who walked away with more money. |
