Another predictable campaign rally

12:59 PM Thu, Oct 30, 2008 |

This morning I covered my second campaign rally in the past two weeks and I'm proud to say I stayed awake for both of them. (Keep in mind I wake up at 2:20am to be on News 4 This Morning).

I covered Joe Biden's speech at Fox High School in Arnold today. Last week I reported on John McCain's rally in St. Charles.

Don't get me wrong. I enjoy politics and having big wigs come to town is exciting stuff. But as I mentioned in my blog about the McCain rally it's pretty much the same old stuff. If you watched the debates and the conventions, you've heard it all already.

Biden did come up with a timely zinger worth a chuckle or two. He said, "Folks I know Halloween is coming tomorrow, but John McCain dressed up as the agent of change? That costume doesn't fit folks."

Biden's speech was considerably shorter than previous ones on the campaign trail... only 25 minutes. Perhaps the candidates are speeding things up so they can make more stops in more cities. Works for me.

One more observation. When I walked in the gym I thought, "This isn't that much space for a rally." Turns out there was a room for overflow. Turns out that room wasn't needed. The gym wasn't close to being filled as staff even roped of an area so people wouldn't be too spread out. Looks better on TV if people are packed in. I'd say about 500 people showed up, but quite a few were students at the school.
