Tomorrow we'll have our first conversation with the three candidates for head of the St. Louis Public School District. After all the district has been through - from Federal oversight to State oversight - over at least 30 decades of turmoil - its hard not to hope one of these three will be the educator to turn things around. When I look at the big picture, it seems hopeless. Politics and poverty are just two of the obstacles. But when you talk to the individuals... on every level... there is optimism. Our children have waited long enough, don't you think?
