HAMPTON BRIDGE BYE BYE, SORT OF!

7:16 AM Mon, Sep 22, 2008 |

Today, on this first day of autumn, the HAMPTON AVENUE BRIDGE, is seeing major changes.
You might say it's undergoing, or at least, preparing for a "MAJOR MAKEOVER." By now, you may have heard this morning around 5:30, crews began shutting down the overpass; which is the main entrance to the St. Louis Zoo and Forest Park.
We were told it would be close between four and five a.m., but it didn't happen really until around 5:30 or so. A spokesperson tells News 4 there weren't any major problems. They apparently just wanted to make sure everything was in place, and that no oncoming drivers were still trying to get across the overpass.
Yeah, it's true. It will be closed FOR EIGHT MONTHS, but keep in mind, crews won't start demolishing the old bridge until FRIDAY NIGHT. Also, they'll continue throughout the weekend and possibly until Monday morning depending on how things go. So, stay tuned to News 4 for all of the Hampton Avenue Bridge updates.
I think the bottom line is---a lot of drivers just don't even want to think about it; however, others will make the best of it.
Let me know your thoughts!
