There is no question about it; the homicide rate in St. Louis is getting out of hand. What can we do? Well, that is where my story today about a new door to door effort fits in. "A Better Family Life" is heading up a new campaign to help men in North St. Louis get jobs. The hope is that if these men have jobs they'll be able to steer themselves away from a life on the streets. Today 20 young adults brought this message door to door in the Well/Goodfellow neighborhood. To kick their message up one knot they also put out street signs in residents yards that read "men work". While we were walking around today the group got a lot of attention... from people wanting to know why we were following them... and more importantly, what this "men work" message was all about. The group's goal is obvious, get men jobs, but James Clark with A Better Family Life tells me making that happen will be an up hill battle... nevertheless they are ready and willing to make that happen. What do you think about this latest campaign? Do you have any other ideas to help drive down the homicide rate? Erica |
