CHILD HURT ON FOOTBALL FIELD

3:38 AM Fri, Sep 26, 2008 |

This morning on News 4 THIS MORNING, we continue to follow a disturbing story out of Mehlville where last night a 12 year old boy was hurt apparently while at football practice at Washington Middle School.
We heard about this story last night, at which time, there were two conflicting stories. My assignment desk person says according to the Mehlville Fire Chief and Fire Dispatch, the boy was "practicing football at Washington Middle School when he was hit in the course of routine play. He collapsed and was flown to a St. Lous area hospital in serious condition."
ON THE OTHER HAND, a coach at the scene told a News 4 photographer "the boy was on the sideline watching because he'd complained of not feeling well when he allegedly felt even worse and passed out, and was taken to the hosoital."

It's now 3:45 a.m. and I'm still waiting for a ohotographer to arrive before we return to do liveshots on the incident for News 4 THIS MORNING. A story like this is always tough especially when it involves a child. I think we all become saddened by it and I know having covered many of these during my 18 years in television news, I always pray for the victim, his family, his friends, anyone affected by the seemingly unpredictable, upsetting, heartgripping events.

If you're reading this blog today, please, take time to utter a prayer for the 12 year old boy, who's name we don't even know, at this time. Also, keep his family, friends and fellow teammates in your thoughts.
