Officers Hurt

4:19 PM Thu, Aug 28, 2008 |

This was a police scene where you need a score card to keep track of who did what when. Fortunately, I'm told the officers who were injured just suffered bumps and bruises when the driver of a van pinned one officer up against his car and then hit another officer while he was sitting in the passenger side of the car.
But let me take you back to when this all started. This information comes from several police reports and conversations with a local police chief. Hold on for the ride! A group of people decides to steal two cars -- a Dodge van and a Dodge Intrepid. Around 1:40am they go speeding by two Riverview police officers involved in a traffic stop along Lilac just north of St. Louis City. Those officers barely escape being hit by the speeding cars. One of the officers jumps into a marked vehicle and goes after the two Dodges. Those two cars stop at the corner of Lilac and Scranton. The officer believes they stop for his lights. NOPE. The Intrepid takes off -- passing the van. Along Scranton, near Riverview, the Intrepid hits a 3rd car, a Ford Taurus. Fortunately, that driver isn't hurt. The van then takes off. St. Louis City Police officers happen to be in the area. They respond to help try and catch the three guys running from the Intrepid. They get one guy. The van returns to the scene and that's when the two officers are hit. Two of the suspects jump into the van and they all leave. Later, police find the van abandoned in a nearby park. Run the plates and they find out it's been stolen. Does this seem like an episode of your favorite cop show? I'm exhausted just reading what these officers went through and for them this is just another day at work. .
