A HOME GROWN SYMPHONY...

If you are the Director of Communications for Powell Symphony Hall--then you had a rather unusual way of waking up. Adam Crane is a home grown love of the symphony. He grew up in Ladue. And as they like to say in St. Louis, where did you go to high school? Adam is a graduate of Ladue High School and began playing the cello while a child. He actually began studying with a cellist with the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra, when he was only 8 years old. His love for that musical instrument still continues today. Adam left Ladue High, went on to New York University -- studying Music-Business for his undergraduate degree. He started as an intern at Carnegie Hall in his junior year,of college, and as he likes to say, "they could not get rid of me." That intership lead to his first job as an assistant to the Executive Director of Carneigie Hall. Unfortunately she passed away, Adam got into the music business, and later moved to Los Angeles as the Director of Public Relations for the Los Angeles Philharmonic.

And then the St. Louis Symphony called about 2 months ago, and asked him if he wanted to run the communications department. The chance to come home made him say " I have to do it." After all the symphony is his life.

This is only the third week on the job, and it was a very unusual call early on the morning of Wednesday August 27, 2008. The Building Services Manager for St. Louis Symphony on the phone with Adam to say... " a truck has hit the marquee, and the damage is minimal. What is more interesting is that this is not the first time that this has happened. Staff claim it has happened several times, during the last 10 or 15 years. The repairs could cost between $3 and $10 thousand dollars. But the best news is-- in each of these incidents, just like this time, no one is ever injured.

For Adam, there is really no big problem. There are no shows until September 19th, when "Lord of the Rings" Symphony begins. By then all of the repairs should be complete, and the building once again ready for symphony lovers.

So here is to you Adam ! We are glad you are back --- to spend time with your siblings, parents, grandparents, and friends. Welcome Home Adam! The notes from your journey back to the place where your family is gathered, provides the lyric for our "Home Grown Symphony."
