Finally, after three years of talking, wondering and looking at the empty lot that was once the old Busch Stadium, the ballpark village will now be built, in some form.
Just talking with fans outside the stadium tonight, they all agree something had to be done. Many said they were walking several blocks to get dinner. Some even suggested if development was not possible with the state of the economy, then at least a park would be an improvement.
As a baseball fan, I've been to other ballarks surrounded by parking lots, and ballparks surrounded by retail development. And I don't think it's a stretch to say what is more enjoyable as a fan. So now that's it's supposedly done, as we're being told with no risk of tax dollars, let's hope it turns out right and gives fans an enjoyable night both inside and outside the ballpark.
